Now

What am I up to right now? That’s the question you have wondered since you landed on this page, unless you aren’t familiar with /now pages. In such a case, it’s simple. This page is about what I am currently doing in multiple aspects of my self-being. It provides a broader snapshot, a moment in a larger timeframe of my current situation, both physically and mentally, than any updates on my social media.

Thanks to Derek Sivers for bringing up the idea of having a /now page! You can read more about this concept in the following link: this “Now” page.

So, what am I up to?

Life

  • I live in Santa Cruz, California. I’ve lived here since late 2022.
  • Any plans for moving? Yes. Although I don’t have a concrete plan, I am aiming to move to another city in late December. My top candidates are San Diego and Portland.
  • What am I looking for? I am not sure…I feel I’d like to be at a place that offers more ethnically diverse events.

What other things am I doing?

  • Learning Chinese. Beginner level: 你好!
  • Gradually embracing the barefoot movement and replacing my footwear with ones that are better adapted to my natural foot shape.
  • Exploring the car camping world and making some initial steps to have my car adapted for it.

Travel

  • Do I have any future travel plans in the coming months? Well, there are some:
    • Spain – Confirmed
    • Mexico – Tentative: There is a trail running race taking place in the Copper Canyons (https://www.coppercanyons.com/), and the organizers have set up a week long camp which includes accommodation + meals + social events + the race entry! So, not a bad deal!
  • Am I traveling right now? No.
  • Where have I been recently? Puerto Rico! What a wonderful island! I rented a car and traveled from Old San Juan to all around in Puerto Rico. Below, I list a few highlights:
    • San Juan
    • Caguas / Patillas
    • Vieques
    • El Yunque
    • Ponce / Mayagüez
    • La Parguera / Rincon
    • Aguadilla
    • Utuado / Jayuya

Pursuits

  • Running
  • Climbing
  • Surfing

I am into long distance trail runs, and my goal for this year is to finish my first 50k (31 miles) race. That’d also be my first ultra, which is any distance longer than a marathon, 42k (26 miles.)

I like climbing and surfing, however, I am more focused on improving my climbing skills (bouldering) at the moment. I surf without much intention of progress itself, although it would be cool if I improved my cross-steps.
